With Melo Summit, we strive to amplify our impact through Reverse Mentoring together with SCMP
The Melo Summit is a unique platform of engagement for the youth of Hong Kong and beyond. It is the co-creation of 15 leading CEOs in Hong Kong and 20 Melo Fellows - undergraduate students selected from the HKUST.
From Jan-Jun 2022, these CEOs and Melo fellows have worked closely on five core topics - sustainability, upskilling, future of work, teen stories, and youth empowerment. The Summit was a showcase of what they have done and a chance of new engagement between our next generation and leading CEOs.

2022 Melo Fellows
Bibo Chui, Eugene Chau, Morris Chan, Janette Chan
2022 Melo CEO
Cindy Chow - Executive Director, Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund Jason Yip - CEO, MWYO
About the Co-Creation
Janette and Bibo, together with Morris and Eugene who worked behind the scenes, told a very moving story. They provoked the audience to ponder "Why is there a gap between how parents and young people define happiness?" Are the youths happy about fitting themselves in major industries? Or should they devote themselves to industries that actually fit them? The group's answer was, "Johnson, if you want to be a farmer, why not?"

2022 Melo Fellows
Cindy Tanaka, Eva Chui, Johnson Chong, Mingin Gu
2022 Melo CEO
Gary Liu - Former CEO, South China Morning Post
Stephanie Lo - Executive Director, Shui On Land
About the Co-Creation
A group of new green voices, Eva, Johnson, Cindy, and Minjin shared a sad but realistic conclusion of their research and studies. Gen Z do care about sustainability, and to a great extent, but their actions do not match with their environmental values. The team explained the reasons for the value-action gap with “CASH” which are competing values, apathy, skepticism and habit. Clearly, we all should act now to close the gap, not just Gen Z.

[FUTURE READY] Upskilling: How to retain and excite Gen Z?

2022 Melo CEO
Ellana Lee - Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Asia Pacific, CNN International
Mark Leung - CEO, J.P. Morgan China
About the Co-Creation
Umang and Efje helped us answer the question. The key to retaining and exciting the younger workforce is the emphasis on healthy culture and values as well as upward mobility. They also summarized 4 core principles of upskilling, which are goal oriented, personalisation, agility and transparency. Peter, who is also part of the team, resonated strongly with the 4 core principles, based on the experience in his current internship. To incite more direct conversations with business leaders, Jason joined the panel discussion with John Tsang and Michael Moriarty . In the future, where some industries may no longer exist, we should equip ourselves with communication skills.

Evan Auyang - Group President, Animoca Brands
Kenny Lam - CEO, Two Sigma Asia
About the Co-Creation
Besides upskilling the youth, let us also look into "What should "work" be like in 5 years". Anushka shared with us that “work-from-home” should become a permanent part of the workplace, and work is ultimately a relationship-driven process so there should also be physical interactions. Before we "work from Mars", Darren led us to dive deeper and explore what kinds of working arrangements, office environment, work-life balance shall be the future of work. Followed by a panel discussion, moderated by our co-founder Kenny Lam. We also heard from CEOs, Bessie Lee and Eric Gnock Fah, and Melo Fellows, Karen, Eunice and Jacob. They had a heated debate over the 3 aspects.
